I'm all about being immersed into a game, or giving a lead in to supply me with interest, and this does both. The mini-game gives you a bit of insight, while the video comics give you a foot in the door, as well as clues regarding the mini-game.

I wasn't looking forward to this before. I just might reserve it tomorrow.

Article excerpt from chud.com — "It's hard not to appreciate everything that the guys at EA are doing in regards to getting you into the universe of Dead Space. They really want you to know everything about the place these characters live in, to make it feel as believable and authentic as possible so that when the crazy Shit happens in the game, you're thrown for a loop. ...

I'm always a bit conflicted when there is a lot of supplementary material for a game/movie/book/whatever out there. I am a big fan of a piece of creative property standing on its own two feet, and not being inundated with a lot of peripheral data... My pet peeve is when a director of a movie, for instance, explains what a scene was *supposed* to mean. To me, it irks me because the movie is what is is, the scene is what it is, and no matter how much they want to talk about it, it either did what they wanted it to, or it didn't.

However, I realize it's a new era of media, where there is a lot of crossover, so maybe it's me that needs to change my perspective. Also, if there is nothing *missing* from the experience of the game without the website and other stuff, then I think it's just extra, fun stuff that's great for the fanbase. I only have a beef with it if something critical to the primary work is missing and is explained away in the secondary data.

Upon reading what the article said and reading through people's experiences, this seems like a positive kind of secondary experience, the kind that supports the game in a good way.

I tried it just now. I saw the same thing with the floating bodies, but when I clicked, I saw a little drop-down menu that said, "Long" which I tried to select to see what other options there were, but I ended up clicking something else by accident, probably a confirmation box. It loaded up a REALLY creepy 3d environment that looks like a lab. I'm actually listening to the background noises from that site right now while writing this reply to you and freaking out from the creepy sounds.

I will have to check it out after work. But with ALL the lights on! *shudders*
