Strange. Most of SouthPeak's games have been *terrible*. Two Worlds was really badly received and technically buggy, Monster Madness was a horrific joke (and yeah, I played that one), and their future offerings are rehashes of these two awful franchises. This is practically 13 million dollars that the venture capitalists might as well have lit on fire.

Sadly, these days, it's not that much. GTA4 cost somewhere on the order of $100 million, and most AAA-quality games are in the 20+ million dollar budgets these days.
SouthPeak is obviously going for the "smaller game" market, so $12 million could get them three or four titles, particularly given the next couple are remakes of existing bad games. Fun!
