meh says,
Oooh boy does this game look fantastic. Regardless of what that controversial debate says, it looks fantastic *cough and the Spanish didn't care before cough* um.. what? Is it just me or does this game pay alot of homages to RE4? What with the allied NPC cabin shootout, the speedboat thing, and etc? They're all great, but I love seeing Chris's punch, much like Wesker's.

Hee hee back in the days of playing Mercenaries (the RE4 minigame)...

And yes, it does count as puzzle. After all, what's a RE game without puzzles being a large portion of it?

Well, there's a bit of a cultural difference between the setting of RE4 and RE5. There's a LOT of baggage that comes with imagery of black people as "mindless savages" that goes beyond the fact that they're zombies. The Spanish don't have a history of being dehumanized by those that enslaved them.

I don't think that's enough to condemn RE5 - I think Africa's a perfectly legitimate setting for a game, and a particularly poignant one *because* of that imagery. But the distinction comes whether Capcom is *aware* of the history or not. Japan is a pretty homogeneous society, and most Japanese don't have a lot of experience dealing with racial issues. I'm hoping they'll deal with it elegantly and appropriately, but part of me is worried they're just oblivious to the issues involved.

Ah well I do see that point. However, I think that at least some of the people at Capcom realize at least some of the long and wide amount of dehumanization the Africans have endured over the years. However, they're probably thinking at the lower level of depth like me and saying, "Well, these people didn't care in our last one, why not these people?"

Also, I think the people who criticize it who've never played or heard of Resident Evil before are confused due to the fact that it is called "Resident Evil" therefore bypassing the "5" and thinking that the Residency of Africa and it's citizens, regardless of the country, are labeled as "Evil".
