Despite the fact that the PS3 has a BLU-RAY, The company has operated at a loss for only the second time since it went public in 1958. The last time was in 1995.

Recession Proof? Me thinks not.

Both. They're at a loss for funds and funs. Hopefully, 2009 will be a better year for them. I still maintain that the PS3 has a lot of potential. It's just sad that the powers-that-be can't seem to get any momentum with the machine. And, every time you think they might have something, they screw it up and remind us why we like our 360 so much.

i think ps3 is ahead of its time and is one of the reasons for its lackluster success..Let alone the struggling economy in the states really doesn't help them either.

Your comment reminds me of the Dreamcast... Oh, DC, you were so before your time. *pours one for my homey, the DC*

Oh, right, we were talking about the PS3. I got nothin'. I'm neither a fangirl nor a detractor. *sneaks out of discussion*

@unsensitiVe: Your typo was hilarious and earned you that Editor of the Day from me, just for the funny factor. Also: most impressive EotD count for yesterday! emote icon 9! Sheesh.

I looked over the shit twice, too. I believe I actually made the homer noise upon realizing it.

And yea, I was rather shocked too. Not used to being the popular one. At least, not in a positive way.

I dunno about the PS3 being "ahead of its time." The only real distinguishing factor is Blu-Ray. Otherwise, the 360 and PS3 are basically in a dead heat, hardware-wise.

If anything, the 360's Netflix capability/video store is the "medium of the future" - the only reason it doesn't feel futuristic is that it works like it's supposed to, and there's almost nothing wrong with it.

With Blu-Ray, stuff like Planet Earth looks awesome, but the "additional features" of Blu-Ray just don't add any value to me. Is it worth paying another $30/movie for? No way. Netflix, on the other hand, for $9/month, I have access to a LOT of streaming content, and get essentially a "free" DVD rental in the mail.

Game-wise, the PS3 has no functional advantage over the 360, and has a substantial disadvantage in the fact that their online services are totally incoherent, and a giant UI disaster.

I used to rent nothing but Blu-Ray from Netflix when I had my PS3...The only thing preventing me from getting another is the painfully weak library.

They should just cut their losses and stop production of the PS3. Maybe give gaming system's another try when the get back in touch with the market.

i will agree online service wise sony need to step it up but IMO the only thing MS has over sony other then online service is their cheap price in this hurting economy of ours in the states..In japan of course sony is outselling the box and in other regions sony is down maybe 1 mill.. its only the US where the Box dominates cause money is very slim for most..Its funny how people forget about the PS2s domination and how the original Xbox was a big time "FLop"..
