LD0ne says,
Ok just got this yesterday and let me tell ya.. I was freaked out within 2 minutes of the begining of the game. Its so cool! its dark its dirty Pyramid Head is back and lookin more bad ass then ever. The controls are real simple to learn it has a counter attack, and a dodge load times are practically nill and the story although I'm not really sure whats going on yet i have to say is very appealing. This is a winner in my eyes you should definetly check it out if you haven't yet. No jump though which stinks but none of the silent hills had a jump if i can remember correctly

Article excerpt from gamespot.com — "Latest Silent Hill horror game refused classification down under; local distributor will wait until early 2009 for a possible resubmission. This year has been a depressing one for Aussie gamers when it comes to bans, with three games failing to meet Australia's strict classification requirements. Dark Sector, Shellshock 2: Blood Trails,...

I've really wanted to pick this up, but with Dead Space coming out so soon I feel like it'd be overkill.

totally different styles of game deadspace takes place in space for 1 has a totally different style of combat I mean sure if you mean the darkness of the games and the constant shit jumpin out at ya from the dark corners then ok ya have a point but i think both games are gonna be sick as hell and will be wonderful additions to my horror collection

Now, see, there is a reason why Australia bans everything, and I think that alot of people don't know this.

Australians aren't allowed to get distracted. That's why they drink so much, so they can build up a tolerance that is desperately needed.

Why?

BECAUSE EVERYTHING THERE CAN KILL YOU!

Spiders with life bars, Sharks that don't need water, bears that drop out of trees!!!

When you've got all that, some nurse with a chicago brown's style face is the least of your concern anyway.

Ended up picking it up afterall. Awesome so far. I don't think it will top SH2 for me, but it'll be an easy second place for the series.

ok adding on to previous review... GAME IS HARD AS HELL!!! if u are going to play remember this cause you'll be screaming it towards the end. The block/dodge system is really neat but the timing has to be perfect cause if you get knocked down u get FUCKED up.. And the puzzles can be quite tedious sometimes especially the one in the attic (ppssstt do urself a favor and really look at the picture of the england flag above the puzzle b4 you go to work on it best bet is to take a picture of it on ur fone or digi for reference)

Do you think it's hard enough that it would be *too* frustrating for a 14 year old? Just trying to see if it would be appropriate for the little bro. Thanks!

everything in the game is doable it just takes time and lots of trial and error. I've found that most of the boss fights all you have to do is die a few times you'll get the rhythm of the bad guys movements and then you'll either adapt or get lucky. Now as for some of the puzzles i think that they would make a 14 year old extremely frustrated especially the one that i give a hint to solving above. Also its extremely dark in story and lots of gratuitous violence (aka one boss literally bites the head off some human during a movie sequence) and it might be a little 2 much for a younger kid to play.. But yes it is indeed beatable you just need to have the patience for trial and error kind of games.

Thanks for all the extra info! It's really nice to get a hands-on review of the game from a fan of the genre, as the bro is, but I am not really into them enough to know too much about them. You gave me a lot to think about. I think he's mature enough to handle violent themes and process them appropriately, but I'll still have to give it some though and talk to our mom about it, obviously. emote icon Thanks again!

no problem dude stay tuned for October 14th when Dead Space comes out will have a nice review of that one as well hopefully. (one more thing i am doubtful about the replay value of silent hill 5, as i was saying above the creatures are all trial and error based but primarily make the same moves and don't really change up that much. I think that the game is a 1 time through and trade the game for something else definetly not a keeper)
