The deal with Platinum Games (ex-Clover, of Okami/Viewtiful Joe fame) is going to make or break Sega, IMO. If the games are good, then Sega, as a brand, means something again. If they're not, Alpha Protocol and the Aliens stuff isn't going to redefine the Sega brand, however good they are.
