Rumor: PS3 'trophy' screen leaked, looks like Gamercard
helava says,
Hmm. Interesting. A lot of people are addicted to getting Achievements, so it's nice to see Sony taking something good from the 360 and applying it to the PS3. One of the things, though, that makes Achievements "worth" something is the persistent connectivity that Live provides.
While the Playstation 3 has free online support, I never really get the sense of pervasive engagement I get from Live. Still, it's a step in the right direction. It'll be interesting to see how it shapes up.

They're worth absolutely nothing.
There was one point where they did a little contest based on how many Achievement Points you had, but they haven't repeated it since.

They are worth absolutely nothing, yet they are worth so much. For those of us who are "collectors" it really sets off a "gotta catch 'em all" *cough* mentality that is hard to shake.
Even for non-collectors, there is a strange level of satisfaction that comes along when you are just innocently playing a game, and suddenly, you see that you've unlocked an achievement.
Now, if only we have achievements to unlock here... :D
