Richard Garriott Suing NCsoft For $24,000,000
DarthChicken says,
This ought to prove interesting. Garriot is accusing NCSoft of fraud. No more details yet. I really want to hear what happened.

"Late last year, Ultima creator Richard Garriott split from NCsoft , the developers and publishers behind his latest game, Tabula Rasa . Sounds like the split wasn't exactly amicable.
While at the time it sounded like Garriott had - fresh from his trip into space - simply walked away for a new challenge outside of games development,...

Sounds like the basic jist is that NCSoft fired Garriott, but then claimed it was a "voluntary" departure in order to make his stock options expire 90 days after termination.
Had he been "involuntarily terminated" as he claims, his options would have lasted 'till 2011, and he wouldn't have had to ditch them in the current awful economy.

I met Lord British a couple of years ago. Actually it was on this Zero-G trip. I was on this flight with him floating around in high altitude. A bunch of us went up and floated around together with Stephen Hawking. He is a nice guy so I hope he didn't get screwed on this. However, I think Tabula Rassa sucked ass so he really went out and blew a huge chunk of his own money.

I really thought Tabula Rasa was a good game, it just had a few problems. For starters, it tried to be both an fps and mmo, and there are not many people who are a fan of both genres.
Aside from that it suffered from NCSoft's typical uninspired early release.

I am :/
Give me a shooter+rpg and I am in farken heaven. I think the combination might have a little better chance of catching on if the developers of such games didn't royally screw them up in some way.
Besides... do we REALLY need another generic anime-inspired fantasy point-click MMOG? It's a genre (or classification, I guess) with A LOT of potential and I really wish developers would start actually doing some stuff with it.
