Remember the Dreamcast?
ebeast says,
I remember the Dreamcast and fondly at that. It came out on 9/9/99, which means that the 9th anniversary is almost upon us! I had preordered and picked up my DC at midnight, along with my preordered copy of Soul Caliber. It's great to see that the Soul Caliber franchise is still doing well.
I loved Seaman, Crazy Taxi, Sega Bass Fishing (a.k.a. Get Bass), and Chu Chu Rocket. Chu Chu Rocket made me a filthy-mouthed, swearing, cut-throat psycho. I constantly lost my cursor on-screen, never won a single round, and had a great time. That horrible/awesome song was stuck in my head for years! And crap, it's stuck in my head again. Crap! :D
Penny Arcade's Tycho talks with 1up in this podcast from PAX about some of the glory days of Dreamcast. I miss you, crazy, weird controller with the strange mini-game system! We even had the fishing controller. Hee.
What were your favorite DC games & memories?
Article excerpt from 1up.com —
"PA's Tycho and the Player One crew sit in for an episode that lasts nearly as long the ill-fated console's lifespan.
Our coverage of Penny Arcade Expo 2008 hasn't ended just yet. Besides the 1UP Show's upcoming PAX Special (look for it next week), we also managed to record an episode of Retronauts while up in Seattle. Of course, being a...

All the Capcom fighters that were are the system. MVC2, Puzzle Fighter, SSF2T, and the list goes on. I even got a Neo-Geo pocket color because of the connectivity...that didn't do so well. Good Times!!

Wait, I have a Neo Geo Pocket Color tucked away somewhere too. I never knew about the connectivity! What was that about? And how did I miss it??

I totally forgot about Samba de Amigo. My favorite memories are of lmk and her insanely robotic perfect scores, and of S having no rhythm whatsoever.
And I could never get those damn poses right.

I never had a chance to connect the two but here it goes,
"The Dreamcast link cable is used to transfer game data from the NGPC to the Dreamcast system. So how does this work? This link was specially meant to be used for the Dreamcast’s up and coming title SNK vs. Capcom. So here’s how it works, first you play using a customizable character in a NGPC game. You connect the cable to the NGPC unit and Dreamcast system. You can then transfer your NGPC character into the Dreamcast game and the same stats and characteristics are still intact. Basically you’re using a character and bringing them to life in a game related to it on the Dreamcast. Of course both games have to be compatible with the DC link cable in order for it to work. "

Ah. I never had SNK vs Capcom for the NGPC (I was/am more of a Bust a Move kind of girl).
Was it PacMan for the DC that let you use the VMU display to see an alternate view than on the screen? I vaguely remember being impressed at seeing that at an E3 a long, long time ago.

That was Pac Man Vs. for the Gamecube. You could hook up a GBA SP and use that as Pac Man's view (that player could see the whole screen), then the ghost-controlling players had limited views of the map through little sections of the TV.

Ah, right. That makes a lot more sense. We never really did much with the Gamecube... I think that is/was the most underused console in our house.

Still, let's be at least a little more complete. We have:
* the fishing controller
* the 1st party lightgun that came with the Japanese HotD
* 2 Samba de Amigo controllers
* 2 keyboards
* 2 broadband adapters
* 4 Dreamcasts
* ~10 controllers
* ~12 VMUs

We have another lightgun too. I remember getting a second one later. At least, I think we did...

Crap! Next thing you know, I'll "remember" the fishing-boxing-rhythm-biking controller for the GameBoxCastStation360.

I mostly got fighting games for it. I remember UFC game my brother had for it didn't work all the time. My favorite fighting game of all time on DC was actually Heavy Metal : Geomatrix cause it wa the only fighting game at the time I always played cause it always had alot of metal music i loved and not the generic crap they make for the games before that. Thanks goodness from XB 360 at least it lets me play my own metal collection on the fighting games

Shemue was both straight-up awesome and awesome in its terribleness:
-"Do you remember that day?"
+"You mean the day of the incident?"
-"Yes, that day..."
+"The day the rain turned into snow?"
-"Yes, that day..."
+"Well, no...I don't remember much...just that the rain turned into snow."
