He made a very astute observation here: "JS: What is funny about online gaming is how much people do it. Think of those players that play 20 or more hours a week, and the value they’re getting for $14.99 a month. It is a place to go that is cheaper. They don’t have to go out to a movie and buy a lot of soda or take part in other activities that cost a lot of money. It is a good spot for people that have a money issues. "
As we've talked about in the past, these relatively low-cost entertainment venues are what draw people, particularly in a depressed economy.
I think it's interesting that we are seeing a lot more spokespeople from the gaming industry being interviewed in general tech media outlets and in general-interest media outlets. It's clear that the gaming industry has a lot of interest to the mass market now, not to mention venture capitalists, as Mr. Smedley mentions in the article.
