The president of game developer Crytek has predicted that the successors to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 will appear within the next three to four years.

They've yet to actually make the $400 I originally dropped on a 360 worthwhile. I'm just playing prettier versions of the same old games that get ever more shorter in length.
I will tell you, last console generation I had everything: ps2, xbox, cube, psp, gameboy... this time around? I really can't see bothering. There's barely enough compelling about games these days for me to stick with the 360 much less get something else.
Yanno I like pretty shit as much as anyone but that's all this stuff is lately: pretty SHIT -- there's nothing about Modern Warfare 2 or most other games which couldn't have been done one any past console. Cinematic experience? Watch a movie.

Whoa there Nelly. There are alot of things being done in games 2day that were not capable on past consoles. Try playing 256 players in shooter in one room on a ps2 or original xbox.
Sure in MW2 you could run around and shoot people but imagine how laggy those air strikes would be on ps2 or xbox. It slows down frame rates now alittle so I know it would murder a ps2/xbox.
I fully understand what your saying though. There really hasn't been many "great" games for next gen and thats why I started my subscription to gamefly :)

That's one thing, though that depends a lot upon net capabilities as well. Also, while that might not have been possible with consoles, it probably could've been done on PC, or with a more optimized game engine.
Though I guess by the time 2012 rolls around, the PS3 might have enough games worth playing to justify buying one.

I, for one, don't believe they'll release a new console any time soon (maybe in 2012 . . . but even that's a stretch). With the global economy doing what it's doing coupled with the fact that modern consoles are constantly being upgraded and refined via firmware, console makers are less likely to risk starting a new generation of hardware when it's more cost-effective for them to simply evolve their existing systems.

I think we've really come to the point where if you can't use the platforms that are out there to make an amazing, engaging gaming experience then you're doing something very wrong.
The tech race was fun and awesome in itself when you were going from 8 bits to 16 or from cartridges to optical discs; there was a real sense of progress behind it, not just trying spit-shine your specs.
