My brain is jumbled with many thoughts on this.
1. As for kids, PSP was waaaaay "better" technologically than the DS but the DS kicked its ass to kingdom come.
2. Whatever made the PSP not a commercial sucess is still going to hamper the PSP phone (PSPhone?). Has Sony fixed whatever technological or market issue that held back PSP?
3. The N-Gage is dead; long live the N-Gage. ;)
4. Will this be more exciting than the iPhone with games? Will both gamers and the general market at large jump on this product with its ability to have a high-powered portable gaming device, or will they be more than happy to spend $5-10 a pop for casual games for phones like the iPhone?
I don't know everything about the mobile gaming market, obviously, but my guess is that I won't be making heavy Sony investments in the near future based on this.

I'll concede the fact that little kids bought the DS much more, but on the upper age, yet still low age market such as me, the PSP dramatically destroyed the DS, WHICH, mind you, should be around the starting age for phone purchases in this little generation of mine.

Exactly. I need a great phone that plays games on a failed portable game system that has a crappy phone attached to it. I really don't trust Sony to get it right.

I'm definitely of two minds on this - on one hand, unless Sony goes fully digital-download with the PSP-ness of the thing, the UMD is a critical failing of the device. On the other hand, Sony-Ericsson has made the best phones I've ever used.
I'd *much* rather have the iPhone, though. The distinction is that while the PSP *does* all the stuff the iPhone does (web browsing, music, movies, etc.), the iPhone does it all in a much, much more user-friendly way that makes those features actually usable. Have you ever tried to put video on the PSP? Or music? It sucks.
