Console specific characters are really just an extension of game title exclusivity, something which is slowly going by the wayside, I think.

It's one of those ideas that makes me think, how did anyone think it would be a good idea? It seems like it would only be good if someone thought it would make people buy multiple copies of the games, one for each console. But I can't think of a single person who would do this. And if you only had one console, and someone else got the characters (or other platform-specific content) that you wanted, simply because they had a different platform, instead of thinking the developers or publishers were clever, I'd think you'd want to kick someone's ass.
