Nintendo Screws Developers
helava says,
From the very moment the Wii was announced, it was a foregone conclusion that Lucasarts would be working on a Wii lightsaber game. For Nintendo to have not even mentioned the MotionPlus to them... wow. That's almost criminal.
Article excerpt from kotaku.com —
"When Nintendo announced MotionPlus for the Wii , who knew about it? Nintendo did. And that's it. They didn't tell a soul. Not even their beloved third-party publishing and development partners, who were understandably a little upset...."

The very first app I had installed on my iPhone was a lightsaber app. It was also the first one I uninstalled. Heh.

The biggest WTF about this is not so much that they wanted to keep things a surprise but that they didn't want to have a bunch of games out of the gate when they released the MotionPlus. Or so I am forced to believe, since development takes a certain amount of time. /understatement

Well, to be honest, this is sort of par for the course with them. And of course, the publishers are going to get blamed for not supporting it, because of being "lazy developers" or somesuch.

Seriously...Nintendo needs to work on third party relations. The amount of crap that comes out on the Wii is just insane. I'm tired of the bullshit "waggle a lot" games on the Wii; I can't say I totally blame third party efforts for terribly games if Nintendo continue to do shit like withholding information (that in reality is not really that important to keep secret) from developers that are investing in an exclusive title for the system. I don't know how great this Lightsaber game is going to be but the point being...if Nintendo could help make it a decent game why the F not? Geez!

I agree completely. It's not as though Nintendo & its product line will not benefit from fostering better third party relations -- of course it will! Better games that really make full use of the unique aspects of the Wii console can only enhance their reputation and desirability... although I suppose one could make the argument that they are so in demand that they are not too concerned about this now, but I think that it's important to be proactive and not rest on your laurels.

The very idea of the motion plus screws fans and developers over. It's pretty much "the initial controller we sold you is crap, but if you give us extra money we'll fix it for you."
If I owned a wii, I'd be pa-hissed.

Well... isn't that sort of the business model, though? Take a look at all the interim updates they do to hardware - GB, GB slim, GB Color, N64 and the memory chip, GBA and GBA SP, DS and DS Lite, etc.

In some ways, I feel similarly about the wired versus wireless controllers for Rock Band. I don't want to shell out extra $$ just to go wireless, yet I hate the wires. Boo wires!

I agree ebeast. Proactive! However Nintendo is a reactive company. They wait, see what works and try to figure out a solution, case and point Wii and MotionPlus. Reinvention of the games they make that appeal to the casual...Brain Age, Nintendogs.... My goodness E3 press conference apology from Iwata. Nintendo does not think too much in lines of prevention ; they are always the wait and see approach method.

it would've been even better if the motion plus worked with existing titles, rather than having everything after its' release work with it. this means that every shovelware game remains shovelware, while future titles will be awesome.
it should've been the suck free peripheral to end all sucking. can you imagine how much better Wii Boxing could've been with that? not to mention the Force Unleashed, and Clone Wars Wii games that are slated for future release?
i hope it makes future games truly awesome. i hear that Don King Boxing is gonna utilize the Wii Motion Plus, and the Wii Fit board.

This kind of crap is exactly what severed the exclusive ties between Rare and Nintendo. That is just stupid. I mean, Golden eye completely carried the N64, and then they go and stick it to that developer during the Conker's nuts project.
FYI that is why Conker cuts the nintendo logo in half with a chainsaw during the beginning of his game. ;)
On the plus side, that makes me happy because KI3 could very possibly be released on a Playstation platform. Eff yeah!
