I really didn't hold out any hope this would be good. On top of basically being nothing like a Castlevania game, I don't really think Konami when I think fighting games - and fighting games (let me tell you) are some of the hardest things to make, period. Everything that makes a fighting game good is in the details.

So, I can't say I'm surprised this hasn't turned out very well. I am surprised, however, to learn (not from the article) that the character designs were done by the same guy who did the characters for Hikaru no Go, a manga/anime that I really like.

Anyone who knows anything about the Castlevania Series should know that a fighting game of this nature would suck. Castlevania has been about killing zombies and other creatures of similar relevance by using whips and other weaponry. It has never been anything remotely close to a fighting game. It has always been a platformer going after Dracula

And Mario was always about side-scrolling platforming action, yet Mario Kart was one of the greatest racing games of its generation. It has less to do with the franchise itself, and more to do with the fact that they simply didn't have the right team making it (nor are the characters themselves popular enough to carry the game through a mediocre fighting game, like you see in Dragonball games).
