WTF. This disrespects women gamers, women developers, and even their own employees. Scratch that: it disrespect all people, period. Disgusting. Pisses me off to no end.

Article excerpt from arstechnica.com — "I can't Imagine what it's like to be a booth babe, especially not at a show like Comic Con. You're being pawed at by huge amounts of sweaty geeks, you have to smile and be pleasant to people who may or may not have showered......"

Yeah - me too. I mean, I "get" what they were trying to do - but it's so hamfisted and ill-conceived that it boggles the mind that some idiot PR moron got this through whatever approval process they had in place.

I feel bad for the team working on the game, frankly. They didn't have anything to do with this, and I'm sure most of them are ashamed and embarrassed as well.

Seems like EA's becoming the new Acclaim, what with the fake protests, and this nonsense...

(for reference, Acclaim once tried to market their voodoo-inspired comic book game Shadowman by buying space on real people's recently deceased relatives' TOMBSTONES.)

Wow, space on tombstones?! Really? It's crazy what some marketing departments are allowed to get away with.

*sighs*
Yes, lets reinforce the myth that gamers are socially inept and maladroit fools.

Awesome, thanks EA.

And I thought the Dead or Alive series was insulting enough.

Oh - and one thing that's beyond the beyond - on top of putting the bounty on the heads of *their* booth babes, they also made the various slobbering idiots who participated in this nonsense pursue *other* booth's attendants, and the drooling morons couldn't even be bothered to distinguish the professionals who were there from *attendants to Comic Con*.

So, yeah. Awesome job, EA. Everyone involved in this should be fired. Out of a cannon. Into the sun.

I couldn't agree with you more. It really demeans the entire industry. Always one step forward, three steps back.

Y'all dont understand but this should have been worded better basically you have to get pics with as many EA employees or any booth babes as possible, this is a very smart idea actually because that means the only way you can is to visit every booth.

The other developers should thank EA because this got many people to come to their booth's when they wouldn't have.

The mistake I see EA did is not wording this better, you guys ever been to E3?

Booth babes are already hounded this is no different an people already take pics, they just had to submit them to EA this time.

I've been to E3 4 times, I think. And my husband and many of my friends are in the gaming industry, as developers, artists, producers, etc. I do know what challenges are faced by the marketing departments, but I would vigorously disagree that the other employees of the other companies appreciated having their women employees harrassed

They werent harassed any more than usual, if you been to E3 then you should those girls are models an nothing more, the only difference was everyone submitted their pics to EA, even G4 had a contest to select their booth babes knowing full well what EA was up to.

Like I said they should have worded that differently though.

I've already stated that I've been to E3 multiple times, and I am quite familiar with how things are run, so I am not sure why my first-hand input is making no impact on your stance?

Yes, there is a culture of booth babes. Yes, many companies still engage in juvenile tactics. This doesn't discount that their contest swept everyone working at the convention up into being a target of harassment, whether their particular company chose to engage in that fashion or not.
