Dragon Age getting DLC expansion on day one
DeadlyFred says,
No idea why that pic is there but its perfect.
This seems to be a rather annoying trend developing: exclusive or paid content, out of the gate, which is more than just "bonus" content. Why on earth should people have to pay extra, on top of $50-$60 bucks just to get the full game they are paying for?
What gets me the most about this is the prevailing attitude towards DLC: people WANT to buy it! No matter what it is. People seem to snap at the proverbial bit for an excuse to throw money away on something. I personally do not find it to be an endearing quality from a developer at all.
I love stories like these because it means I get to save money -- because I'm not buying something I'm only going to get part of; I hate stories like these because it hammers home the fact that gaming is well and truly just another corporate entity out to get your money.
There was a time, long, long ago when developers tried to win your money by making amazing games, not just selling them to you in pieces.

So true. Funny thing is some of this stuff you get for DLC is already on the disk. They are charging you 5 bucks to unlock something you already have!!! Street Fighter 4 is an example. I know damn well all those costumes they charge as DLC is already on the disk because I seen the files when I threw it into my blu-ray drive.
Some DLC such as new maps are passable as extra content seeing that most map packs are not on the disk already.

I totally do not mind expansion packs and extra crap being tacked on as DLC later on but to have stuff, from the get go, which effects the core of the game (as the Stone Prisoner seems to do), or additional "zones" is a bit ridiculous. And it definitely doesn't go real far towards winning me over as a customer.
And I know, I know: its the gaming *industry*, so people are out to make money, yada yada; do they have to be so overtly miserly over it?
