Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party 2 Reviews
kellybelly says,
I think DDR has taken a backseat to Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Also, Wii has given lots of other options for games that get up up and moving.

"If it weren't for the slight changes to the soundtrack, the odd inclusion of Miis and the number two stamped on the box, we'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between the original Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party and the sequel...."

I still have DDR dance pads at home, collecting dust. I should bring them into the office.

i was thinking, someone should combine DDR and Guitar Hero. So you are playing instruments, but your footwork matters as well.

When I visited Korea many years ago, they had a game similar to DDR at the arcade, except the arrows were at the forward right, forward left, behind right, and behind left (so the action pads were laid out in an X if you look down, instead of in the + as it is in DDR) AND had two sensors at around waist level, about a foot in front of you for your hands. You had to jump around on the pads as well as swing your hands over the sensors. I could see this working on the Wii, with the Wiimote.

first I thought you were talking about a little game called Pump It Up, but that one have five buttons of fun (corners and center)
anyways, DDR doesn't do too well at home because most of the people who actually /play/ DDR and are good at it can't use the shoddy unresponsive home pads that slip around too much.
if you haven't played the Arcade version, then you wouldn't know how much of a difference there actually is between a metal stage and foam pads
Sure, you could get metal pads, but then you have to deal with storage and what have you
whenever i see DDR in an arcade, i'll stop and pay a buck for some songs

Virtual Power Up for CrazyP. I got one of the RedOctane pads for DDR (before they moved on to making the guitars for Guitar Hero). It was such a huge step up from the terrible standard home mats, but like CrazyP said, even that took a huge amount of space for storage. If you wanted, you could break it down, but it required that you unzip the thing, disassemble the foam pad, then fold up the outer shell.
It's sitting in our closet - the problem is that we've loaned our PS2 to a friend. :)

Ooh, will have to google Pump It Up. I don't think I've run into that before.
I totally agree; the arcade experience is a million times better than the home experience. Of course, I always felt weird when there were a bunch of 12 year olds watching & judging my lack of skills, but it was still fun! :)
