Ouch. I've got a handful of friends playing Borderlands - no one's lost their stats yet, but if they do, I imagine they're not going to be very happy. :

I'm really interested in the game, though - I know it was in development for a really long time at Gearbox, and for a long time, it really seemed like a boring, run-of-the-mill post-apocalyptic yawnfest. Somehow, between the really gorgeous change in art style and the Diablo-like RPG elements, they seem to have found something unique.

I hope they get the bug issues resolved soon.

Article excerpt from kotaku.com — " Gearbox Software 's Borderlands, while entertaining, is not perfect. From a technical standpoint anyway, things could go seriously wrong (and have) for some players, including the corrupting of character data and the resetting of hard-earned skill points. An ongoing list of the game's technical shortcomings, ones that may reduce you to...

This is why I've vowed not to play any new, hyped games (with the exception of MW2) when they first come out. I'm tired of getting excited for a game, buying it on day-one, only to find that it's not ready for prime time. Killzone 2 was the last game to fool me like that. I'm not letting it happen again.

Instead, I've adopted the philosophy of letting games simmer for a little while after release. If it's good enough, it'll still be worth playing AFTER they've actually finished the game, and I won't have to deal with all the crappy bugs that should have been worked out before the game hit the store shelves.

Borderlands looks cool, but I'm not getting near it until it's been updated over the course of a month or two.

The problem with that is that if you've got a game like KZ or Borderlands, a lot of the benefit comes from an active, enthusiastic player base... and your parity with them. If you wait too long, you're stuck playing with vets, and getting your ass handed to you constantly. Gets frustrating. So if you wait, you have a smoother experience, but are behind the curve. If you don't wait, you sometimes get completely screwed. Bleh. Sucks either way.

True, but I'd rather be killed by people who're more skilled than I than be killed because of problems with an unfinished game.

And, besides, I'm generally pretty good at games. So, while I might start off behind the curve, if I like the gameplay, it doesn't stay that way for too long.
