Another Year, Another Cooking Mama

"A mantra that should cause the clucking of tongues and the rolling of eyes! But no. This isn't some skateboarding series. It's no annually-updated football franchise. It's Cooking Mama ! So it's with delight that we learn Majesco will be releasing a new Cooking Mama title this year, and an all-new one to boot...."

It's amazing to have a real life infant posting about games. You are so advanced. Scientists will be descending upon your home to study your brain. ;)
All kidding aside, I loved the idea of Cooking Mama, but was severely disappointed with the actual implementation (for the DS -- I can't comment on the other versions). After all, I love cutesy games, and I love cooking! Surely, a marriage made in heaven?!
Alas, it was not to be. However, I am still holding out hope that the newest Cooking Mama might be a much-needed improvement upon the last one.

Agreed, re: Cooking Mama. It was a game I really, really wanted to love. I wanted it to teach me something about cooking, but more, capture the franticness and sense of accomplishment that *real* cooking provides, in easy to digest, no-dishes-to-clean-up videogame form.
Instead, it was a bad, food-themed Warioware ripoff. Disappointing. Charming, cute, and disappointing.

Thank you! Your knowledge of video games is clearly only surpassed by your culinary skills. I bet you make a mean cassoulet. Thanks for the review. In all seriousness, are there any good, or even passable, cooking-themed games out there, or is a one field that has proven untranslatable?

There are no good cooking-themed games out there. Honestly, the "best" cooking-themed game is the food system in the Sims 2 on xbox/NGC. Though I'm not exactly unbiased about that, so you'll have to take that well-seasoned.
