Activision: Games Will 'Eclipse' Other Forms of Entertainment

This is a no brainer. Movies, music, plays, and other such things are far too expensive in an economy such as this. But a game is relatively cheap for the amount of time you get from it. Especially if you're wise about which ones you choose to purchase.

I wish the movie theater experience could be improved overall. I enjoy actually watching a movie at a theater, but I don't enjoy people who are loud or rude or talk on their cells. With games, you can play with who you want, when you want.
I think in order for theaters to continue to compete, they need to offer something really different. Live local music beforehand? Real food in the theaters? I don't know.
The numbers that would be most interesting for me is to see the overall industry revenue growth/decline for 2008 for both videogames and movies. With so many places closing shop, it's clear the gaming industry is also suffering greatly.
